Biography
Sugarland, an American country music duo, is composed of singersongwriters Jennifer Nettles (lead vocals) and Kristian Bush (background vocals, lead vocals, mandolin, acoustic guitar, and harmonica). Sugarland was founded in 2002 by Kristen Hall with Bush and ultimately became a trio after hiring Jennifer Nettles as lead singer. After three years, Hall left the group.
Signed to Mercury Nashville Records in 2004, Sugarland broke through that year with the release of their debut single "Baby Girl," the first single from their multi-platinum debut album "Twice the Speed of Life." "Baby Girl" peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, and was the highest-charting debut single for a country group in 13 years, and it set a record for the longest country chart run since the inception of Nielsen SoundScan.
In late 2005, Nettles sang guest vocals on Bon Jovi's #1 country hit "Who Says You Can't Go Home."
In 2006 they released their second album, "Enjoy the Ride" which debuted at #4 on the U.S. Billboard 200 Albums chart and at #2 on the U.S. Country Album chart. It has since been certified 3x platinum by the RIAA. The album produced four chart singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, all of which were Top Ten hits. "Want To" and "Settlin'" were both #1 hits. "Everyday America," the third single, peaked at #9 on the country chart. The final single was the acoustic ballad "Stay," which peaked at #2.
"Love on the Inside," released in 2008, was Sugarland's first #1 album, reaching that position on both the Billboard 200 and the Top Country Albums charts. This album produced three straight #1 country hits in "All I Want to Do," "Already Gone" and "It Happens." The album has been certified 2x platinum by the RIAA.
In 2009, the duo released a live album as well as a holiday album. "Live on the Inside" was released in August 2009, and debuted at #1 on the country and pop charts. In October, "Gold and Green" was released, charting within the Top 5 of the country albums chart.
Sugarland released its fourth album, "The Incredible Machine," in 2010. The album's first single, "Stuck Like Glue," peaked at #2 on the country singles chart. The album was certified platinum and debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums charts.
